The following items were considered at the latest meeting.

Langwood goes green

The new re-cycling bins have only been here for 10 days and already there are problems!

It’s important that they be used and used properly. If not the bin men may refuse to empty them and that will mean that we will have to pay for special collections.

Please make sure that you (or your tenants) use the new bins and understand what goes where.

The labels attached to the bin lids have been copied and circulated to each flat. Anything that cannot go into one of the new bins has to go into the large household waste bin. This includes nappies, tin foil and much packaging. But there are still some things that the bin men will not take away such as broken sheet glass, expanded polystyrene and so on. You have to take those things to the dump yourself.

Also, there are many flats and few bins and they are emptied only once a fortnight. So it is important that boxes be flattened and tins crushed to ensure the bins do not fill up too quickly.

We all want to keep the bin stores clean and tidy so, please, if the bins are full take your rubbish elsewhere. If you have a problem with disposal please contact Dennis or a member of the committee and we will do whatever we can to help you.

AGM 2006

Shareholders are advised that the LRA Ltd AGM this year will be held on Wednesday 17 May at 8 p.m. The agenda will be circulated nearer the date.

Gas meters.

It’s been reported that British Gas want to put the meter for one of the ground floor flats outside (i.e. adjacent to an outside wall). The committee has decided to oppose this change because of the precedent it would set and because it is felt that in the future new technology will allow for remote meter reading and that would be a better solution.

Car parking in Grandfield Avenue

Traditionally those who park in Grandfield Avenue have respected the informal practice of parking on the north side only. Recently some cars have been parked on our side too and this is encouraging others to follow that lead.

The result is a dangerous narrowing of the space available to passing traffic especially the many lorries using the road to access the building site for Priory Fields. It is also making it difficult to turn out of the Langwood car park into the road.

There are no parking restrictions there so if people choose to risk their vehicles it is a matter for them but the last time this happened the police moved in to deal with the obstruction. So the advice is to think carefully before deciding where to park. Meanwhile everyone who parks on site is reminded to use their garages whenever possible. And when parking elsewhere on site please use the marked bays.

Next Meeting: Sunday, 2nd April 2006 at 10.30 in flat no 6.

The following meeting will be held on Sunday 7 May 2006 in flat 21.
