The Residents’ Association welcomes everyone’s contribution. If you have a problem, suggestion or news please contact a Committee member. They are: Jim Hurson (flat 6) Shirley Batten-Smith (flat 7) Syd Hall (flat 9) and Paul Ryzman (flat 11)
Also on the committee are the Directors of Langwood Residents Association Ltd who are:
Tony Batten-Smith (flat 7) Alan Goodridge (flat 21) and Stephanie Beardsworth (flat 22).
Our Managing Agent is Dennis Brooke of Qualitas telephone: 01923 211331
The following items were considered at the latest meeting.
Block doors
Consultation with shareholders is currently underway on the proposed replacement of the doors with hardwood doors with double glazed window panels. If the principle is approved details of quotes received will be circulated after 15 October.
Door security
There has been a mixed response to the idea of a radio-controlled system to control entry to the new doors. The matter is to be fully discussed at the next meeting and a discussion paper will be circulated in advance.
Gate
The new gate has already had some impact on trespassing and in an attempt to increase it’s effectiveness it is to be locked for a week starting at 9pm on Tuesday 5 October.
As previously advised this is to give the impression that it will be permanently locked but after a week although the padlock will remain the gate will be open. While the gate is locked those in block 10/22 requiring access to the car park and garages will have to go through block 1/9. If this arrangement presents you with any special problem please contact Alan in flat 21 (tel: 245971) for help.
It is difficult to measure the difference that the gate is making except by gathering residents’ impressions. If you have an opinion or experience concerning the gate you’d like to share please contact member of the committee.
Budget 2005
Next year’s budget will be finalised at the next meeting. Once again the aim is to hold payments at £90 per month. No provision is being made for cavity wall insulation or for re-surfacing the small car park. Full details will be available at the meeting.
59-63 Langley Road & 1 Langwood Gardens
The Council has approved the latest planning application from Banner Homes and they have agreed to abandon their appeal against the decision to decline the earlier application.
It is not clear when work will begin. The Council still has to decide issues of detail such as approving building design and materials etc. However we can now look forward to lots of new neighbours in 8 four-bedroom town houses and 14 two- bedroom flats.
In the wake of its new doorstep collection of paper, glass, tins and plastic bottles for re-cycling the Council has moved our refuse collection from Tuesday to Wednesday with effect from 6 October.
At this stage our flats are not included in the new scheme but the Council intends to contact Qualitas in due course to discuss how we might be included.
Next Meeting: Sunday, 31st October, March 2004 at 10.30 in flat no. 9.
